Health and Wellness Do Not Discriminate.

It’s time to reset the bar for wellness spaces in the West. As three white women opening a wellness centre we are very aware that we are sharing practices which have their roots in another culture. We work hard to ensure that our teachers and practitioners honour the practice, the culture, and the people whom the practice has been passed on from. Yoga, in the west specifically, has been inaccurately portrayed and dishonestly marketed as physical activity that is exclusive to those with fit & flexible bodies, with the face of ‘yoga’ being dictated by European beauty standards. Nothing could be further from the truth and we want to celebrate that yoga is for every body, every race, and every identity.

#Wellness, and #Yoga do not discriminate.

With the intention of helping to dismantle white centrism in the wellness industry, while amplifying minority voices, we are taking our interview process very seriously. We are dedicated to ensuring that our staff and teachers are representative of diverse populations and/or are educated on these topics so that we, as a collective, can be an ally for equality and justice within our community.

Further - we take cultural appropriation very seriously in our space. We are aware that yoga is an ancient practice with its cultural origins in India. We are committed to honouring the roots of yoga in our teachings and in our practice and we are always open to learning and listening to how we can do a better job of this. Check out our very own @jahaanflows latest posts on the eight limbs of yoga to learn more about what yoga REALLY is.
